In an effort to fight spam and create a better user experience for website visitors, Google is favouring HTTPS sites in search results. If you don't know what HTTPS is then read Google's explanation

Google has also created a guide for what constitutes a good HTTPS site, including things like not redirecting visitors to or through an insecure page.
